Scales View Cottages are situated near to the village of Threlkeld to the east of Keswick in the Northern Lakes. The steep sided Blencathra looms over Threlkeld village, a popular starting point for walking the mountains.The village has a thriving community with 2 public houses – both serving meals, a village school and a part time post office.Surrounded by beautiful fells and mountains Threlkeld is an ideal base for a relaxing break.

Threlkeld’s history reaches back more than 800 years; the Romans were here from the 3rd to the 8th century, followed later by the Norse. In the village the church dates back to 1578 and the two pubs first opened their doors in 1688.Guided walks around Threlkeld are conducted by local residents on a regular basis. Threlkeld even has its own mining museum which has been open for 10 years.

Close by is the the picturesque tourist town of Keswick which offers a variety of restaurants, shops and museums and the famous Theatre by the Lake . Keswick sits on the shores of Derwentwater which is hailed as 'Queen of the Lakes', and is surrounded by some of the most magnificent scenery in the Lake District.
The heart of Keswick is the Market Place, surrounded by shops, restaurants and hotels and now renovated into a pedestrian area. The Moot Hall, dominates the market square. Close by are two large public parks offering games facilities in open, garden and wooded settings. They are an important part of Keswick's well tended appearance which has won it several national awards and the appreciation of its multitude of visitors. Though only a small town, Keswick has a range of shops and services far larger than might be expected. The friendly attention in the shops and the weekly markets around the Moot Hall is seen as a pleasant reminder of days gone by. The visitor also has the choice of four museums, art and craft galleries, and a cinema.

Walkers and climbers are spoiled for choice. From the high summits to forest trails and lakeside paths, there are routes suitable for all, and if you are feeling more adventurous, why not try the new Altura Mountain Bike Trail or Go Ape in the nearby Whinlatter Forest Park.
